Week of May 20th/Update on MARE

And the learning continued with MARE as we created a make-believe pond in the classroom.  Using playdough each student was in charge of making one of the critters that live in a pond, and as we were building it, they had to explain where in the pond that critter belonged and why.  It was fun and exciting to observe how much they had learned!

As always, this is a tentative planning for the week.  Throughout this week we will celebrate Spirit Week.  Please note the different activities for each day.

More Updates

What a fantastic MARE week we are having!  The students became young scientists in the classroom as they built their own ponds.  They predicted and learned from observing, then did their journals. Lots of fun!  And today they experimented with water.  They participated in three investigative stations to explore some interesting properties of water.  In "Sink or Float?", students had the opportunity to predict and find out what happens when a variety of objects are placed in a tub of water.  In "Boat Building", students explored what kinds of shapes make the best boats, and how much you can load in them before they sink.  In "Water Drops", students use water droplets and toothpicks to discover how water is attracted to itself. The students were very enthusiastic and eager to participate and learn.  This would have not been possible without the help of Mrs. Carson, Mrs. Dickert and Mrs. Moller who volunteered  to lead the stations. THANK YOU!

On a different note, we are in need of tissues and glue sticks in the classroom.  Your donation will be greatly appreciated.  Remember also to turn in your progress reports and Spring pictures.  Thank you.

And the students' singing was great.  Thank you to all of you for coming.  Have a wonderful week end, and a very happy Mother's day.
