Welcome to Middle School!

About Dr. Kaumbulu

Although I grew up in the Bay Area, I began my teaching career in Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa. I lived and worked in Kenya from 1971 to 1991. Upon returning to the United States, I began working at St. Jerome Catholic School and joined the St. Jerome parish community. I have also taught Education and Culture as an adjunct professor in the Department of Education at Dominican University. As a teacher consultant for KQED Channel 9TV I participated in the Emmy award winning Be A Teacher public service announcement. I have participated as a member of the diocesan technology committee. Throughout my teaching career, I have conducted workshops in technology integration at various university sites.

I  received my B.A. in Sociology.  I have a M.Ed in Integrated Studies, and a Ph.D in Education with a specialization in Educational Technology. I have a California CLAD teaching credential. My research focuses on theories of technology and cognitive development, as well as teacher beliefs and their participatory practices when using digital tools in the classroom. My current interests are in digital literacy development. In my spare time, I like to ride my bicycle and play tennis.

About Miss Sciba

My name is Kylie Sciba, and I am very excited to be a new member of the Saint Jerome community, and your teacher this fall.  I come from New York where I graduated from The College of Saint Rose in 2012 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Childhood Education and Mathematics.  I am currently working for my masters degree in Educational Technology from Fullerton State University.  Besides writing creative lessons, I enjoy reading, spending time with my family and puppy, Gracie, and running.  I must also add that, although we live in Oakland A’s and San Francisco Giants country, I am an avid Yankees and Rangers fan!

I am really looking forward to the new school year. I feel so blessed to be a part of such a wonderful Catholic community, and to have the opportunity to teach your children.  My goal is to have all students succeed both academically and socially by creating a classroom environment that is engaging, challenging, and enjoyable. Please know that my door is always open to talk. You may also contact me by e-mail at ksciba@csdo.org. This is going to be a great year!

About Mr. Blasser

Hello there! My name is Robbie Blasser and I am a most recent addition to the St. Jerome faculty, doing my best to fill in for Ms. Cabral as the middle school ELA and Religion instructor, in addition to being the new 8th grade homeroom teacher. I myself am a product of fourteen years worth of Catholic education, and both of my parents even served as Catholic school teachers as well as principals. I earned my BA in Theater Arts from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2007, and went on to earn my Master's in Social Philosophy from Loyola University Chicago in 2014. Within this time, I worked as a writer, outdoor educator, tutor, summer camp administrator, and extended care director in cities like San Francisco, Chicago, and Los Angeles. All tolled, I have been working with children of all ages for twenty years, finding it to be one of the few consistently rewarding experiences of my life. Needless to say, I am very excited to begin this latest chapter of my life and be a part of this school. I look forward to learning from teaching just as much as I look forward to teaching what I have learned. I promise I will give your children, and this community, my all.
